Walked around the little town of Berchtesgaden in the afternoon

Day 5 - Lake Konigsee

Took an electric boat ride along Lake Konigsee. We got off to walk around a bit and D of course had a giant pretzel in the beer garden. I've lost count of how many pretzels he's eaten πŸ˜†

Eagle’s Nest

Took a 15 min bus ride up a steep and winding road then a golden elevator to reach Eagle’s Nest at 6,017 feet. We climbed a bit higher to get even more amazing views. Built by and used exclusively by the Nazi party, it’s now a tourist spot and beer garden. We of course had to stop for a bite on top of the mountain. 😊 And an interesting fact: Hitler was scared to ride the elevator ... (description stolen from Alli...) Bee Tee Dubs, a bird ate her dumpling and we almost died in a fiery head on bus crash at the top of the mountain.

Lake Eibsee

Hiked the 4.3 miles around the lake... on top of the 3.5 up and down the hill for the castles.... it was a day

Day 4 - Ramsau and St Sebastian

Spent the afternoon walking around near our hotel. Such beautiful scenery including St Sebastian church. The man who wrote Silent Night served as a clergyman here for a few weeks in 1815.

Ramsau Hotel - Berghotel Rehlegg

The online pictures did not do this hotel justice. Everything was so beautiful and the staff was so friendly. The balcony of our room was one of our favorite things of the whole trip. Plus breakfast and dinner was included. They put out buffets each morning and evening. Everything was so good!

Day 4 - Eagles Nest Biergarten

Decided to have lunch at the beer garden on top of the mountain before heading back down. Quite the view!!

Day 4 - Eagles Nest

Built by the Nazis and used exclusively by them for government and social meetings. Hitler is said to have visited 14 times. Used for a much better purpose now 😊

Day 4 - Entrance Tunnel & Golden Elevator

The bus drops you off at the entrance tunnel. It's a long tunnel in which takes you to a rotunda with a golden elevator. This elevator takes you to the building and lookout areas.

Day 4 - Bus Ride to Eagles Nest

The only way to get up to the Eagles Nest is by bus (or to walk - no thank you haha). Bus ride was a steep and winding 15 minutes up to the entrance. Going up was a little scary but coming back down even more scary. Especially when our bus came face to face with another bus after coming through a tunnel! 😳

Day 4 - Drive to Berchtesgaden

Woke up early and drove three hours east to Berchtesgaden. Drive was mostly countryside and then mountain roads. It was a beautiful drive. I love how green the grass is and how blue the sky is.

Castle Day

Made the 45 minute trek up to Neuschwanstein Castle... worth the hike! (The Disney castle)
